The Freshman Quad is one of two "Quads" at Gunn, the other being the Senior Quad. It is bordered by the N building, the parking lot, Spangenberg, and a hedge that separates the freshman quad from the beach volleyball pit. It contains a raised amphitheater, dedicated to Robert McLean, a former Gunn Principal.
The Freshman Quad is commonly used by students, mainly freshmen, to eat lunch. A a steel bench is located under the Spangenberg overhang, two tables are located on the amphitheater, and one table is off the amphitheater near the N building.
Additionally, the a bulletin board for posting student updates is located on Spangenberg's wall, facing the Freshman Quad.
