This course is an introduction to basic school-level study of vocabulary acquisition, composition, reading, and public speaking. The work of the year is focused on effectively and persuasively organizing, supporting, and presenting materials in writing and speech tailored to specific occasions and audiences. Reading is selected to emphasize the challenges of effective communication. The course uses the works and ideas of canonical and contemporary writers such as Rostand, Golding, Orwell, and Acevedo.
