This is the advanced English course for 10th grade, introduced in the 2022-2023 school year.

Course catalog description

Recommended for students desirous of advanced-level work in English. Coursework is typically more rigorous, studied at a faster pace, and requires more independent work outside of class. This course builds on skills cultivated in English 9A by focusing on analyzing figurative language and how literary devices contribute to themes. In addition, students will strengthen their ability to support claims and counterclaims as well as craft their own narratives. Students will read a variety of texts, including contemporary memoirs, Victorian novels, plays, and poetry. Beyond analysis and creation of the written word, students will continue building speaking and listening skills with dynamic classroom discussions, Socratic Seminars, and prepared presentations. One year of English 10A is required or graduation.
