Alternate schedules are schedules that differ from the normal bell schedule and exist for a variety of reasons, most often to accommodate a long weekend, but also sometimes for standardized testing purposes.
Examples
The following alternate schedules are reasonably common:
- Friday Off: Typically, if there is a long weekend with Friday off, then the Monday schedule is eliminated, Wednesday is moved to Monday, and Friday is moved to Wednesday. This means that PRIME is on Monday and SELF/Study Hall on Wednesday.
- Monday Off: If there is a long weekend with Monday off, then the 7-period Monday is simply eliminated.
- Minimum Day: Minimum days occur the Friday before Spring and Winter Break. They eliminate Lunch and SELF, and sometimes shorten the other classes.
- Late-Start Mondays: Sometimes, there are late-start Mondays that run from 10:00 to 3:50. All classes are shortened to 35 minutes, Brunch is held from 10:00 to 10:15, and Lunch is held from 12:20 to 12:50, between periods 3 and 4.
- Finals: During finals week, each period is extended to 2 hours, with periods 1 and 2 on one day; periods 3 and 4 on another; and 5, 6, and 7 on the last.
