GPA
A GPA(grade point average) is a number that attempts to summarize a student's academic performance. It is defined as the mean of the grade point scores of every class.
Grade point scores
Grade point scores can be found from a letter grade. If a score is "null," then the class is not counted toward the GPA.
Letter | Score |
---|---|
A | 4 |
B | 3 |
C | 2 |
D | 1 |
F | 0 |
I | Not a final grade; must be converted to F or another letter |
P | null |
NM | null |
CR | null |
NC | null |
Weighted GPA
Certain classes, generally AP and honors classes, are considered "weighted" and may not be taken by freshmen due to UC requirements.[1] For each of these classes, the individual grade point score is increased by 1, for a maximum of 5.
This caused some controversy due to some students not having this benefit until their senior year, which resulted in the GPA concept being split into an unweighted GPA (uwGPA), without the score increases, and the weighted GPA (wGPA), where the score boosts are present.
