PAUSD is the Palo Alto Unified School District, the district that Gunn is a part of.
Schools
Elementary Schools:
- Addison
- Barron Park
- Duveneck
- El Carmelo
- Escondido
- Fairmeadow
- Herbert Hoover
- Juana Briones
- Lucille M. Nixon
- Ohlone
- Palo Verde
- Walter Hays
Of these, Hoover and Ohlone are choice schools, which means that any student can enter a lottery to go there regardless of where in Palo Alto they live. Hoover is more academically focused while Ohlone offers a somewhat more open, holistic learning experience and has a farm.
Middle Schools
There are three middle schools: Fletcher, Greene, and Jane Lathrop Stanford (JLS). Fletcher and Greene were formerly named Terman and Jordan respectively, but their names were changed in the 2018 – 2019 school year due to the namesakes' involvement in eugenics. JLS was originally named Wilbur Junior High. It was renamed by the district in 1985 when Terman and Jordan shut down due to declining enrollment and their students moved to Wilbur.
Of the three schools, JLS is the largest. Its graduating students are split between Gunn and Paly, while all Fletcher students go to Gunn and all Greene students go to Paly.
High Schools
The two comprehensive high schools in the district are Gunn High School and Palo Alto High School. They are rivals.
