Math is a department with a variety of classes, most of which have a clear intended order. 30 credits are required for graduation, in addition to passing Algebra 2 or an equivalent class.

Pathways

Students who take Math 8 in middle school must take Algebra 1A, while students who take Algebra 8 have the choice between Geometry A and Geometry H. Any student taking Algebra 1A then has a choice between Geometry and Geometry A the next year, however, they can also take Geometry A during Summer School to directly do Algebra 2 + Trig A the next year.

From here, students generally stay in the same lane, although there are instances of lane changes, such as changing from Analysis to IAC.

Students who take IAC then do AP Calculus AB the next year if they wish to get a fourth year of math. Precalculus students may also do this, although it is less common, as taking Precalc before senior year requires a lane change. Analysis students have the choice between AP Calculus AB and AP Calculus BC.

Skipping classes

Only honors classes may be skipped. Additionally, Analysis cannot be skipped because it has AP content, and Geometry H cannot be skipped for other reasons. Therefore, Algebra 2 + Trig H is the only skippable course.

To skip Algebra 2 + Trig H, a high percentile on the AMC10 is required, and a 96% or higher in the tests category of Geometry H is required. Once this is done, the final of Algebra 2 + Trig H can be taken, and a score of 90% or higher results in skipping to Analysis.
