IAC (Intro to Analysis and Calculus) is a math course typically taken after Algebra 2 + Trig A and before AP Calculus AB.

Course catalog description

Students will build on their knowledge of functions and explore new topics including: vectors, polar functions, logistic functions, parametric functions, probability, combinatorics, matrices, sequences, series, and statistics. The fourth quarter of the year will focus on limits and an introduction of calculus including the derivative. A graphing calculator is required.

**** Important Note: By selecting this course, level change requests will be considered ONLY at the end of the 1st Progress reporting Period in September.

• Prerequisite(s): Successful completion of Algebra 2 and a complete Trigonometry course; open to grades 11 and 12

• Students self-report spending an average of 1-2 hours a week outside of school on this course

• This is an advanced course

Should I take this course?

You should take this course if the level of rigor of Analysis H is simply too high for you. This does not mean that you switch to IAC if you get a B in Analysis H, as Analysis H is supposed to be hard, but if you are getting a C or lower, you should consider switching. Note that IAC tends to fall far behind Analysis and review a lot of material from Trig A or Trig H, so you might feel like the course is too easy if you took Algebra 2 + Trig H before. If you do not want to spend a lot of time studying for math though, IAC might be the right option for you. Note that IAC will only allow you to take AP Calculus AB, so you intend to take AP Calculus BC, you will have to do Analysis H, no matter how difficult you find it.
