The Science Department is the department at Gunn that handles all the science classes. Specific subjects covered include Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Environmental Sciences.

Progression

All freshmen are required to take a biology course, either Biology or Biology H. Sophomores take a Physical Science course, typically Chemistry or Chemistry H. Juniors and Seniors are not required to take a science course, though they are recommended to.

Idiosyncrasies

  • Science teachers typically have some sort of notebook policy, though it's not always enforced.
  • Lecture slides are typically not posted.
  • Homework is not checked, though pre-labs are.
  • Tests are locked in the classroom and it is made extremely clear to students that they are not to photography, record, or remove their tests from the classroom.
  • Courses are not typically standardized between teachers of the same class, unlike in the Math department.
