A freshman, frosh, or 9th grader is a student in their first year of high school after graduating from a middle school. The color yellow is typically associated with freshmen during school-wide inter-grade events like Homecoming.

Course selection

Freshmen are required to have 7 classes, 5 of which are in fixed disciplines.

English

Freshmen and sophomores take the same English classes. See English for more info.

Social Studies

All freshmen take World History (or World History SLC).

Math

Students who took Math 8 take Algebra 1A in 9th grade. Students who took Algebra 8 have a choice between Geometry A and Geometry H.

Science

Freshmen have the choice between Biology or Biology H.

PE

Freshmen must take either PE 9 or Zero period PE 9. PE electives may not be taken during the freshman year.
