A Semester is half of a school year. The first semester begins in mid-August and ends in late December, while the second semester begins in early January and ends in early June. Students are given a grade on their transcript for each semester.
Although most courses last for the whole year, some, notably English elective courses, only last for a semester. Of the year-long courses, a few, like AP Physics C and AP Computer Science A, teach materially different content between the two semesters, but this is not common.
Senioritis is a common affliction of Seniors during the second semester and is characterized by a lack of motivation to continue with one's studies.
