Trash
Litter is commonly seen outdoors on the Gunn campus. There is at least one set of waste bins (trash, recycling, and compost) in every classroom, as well as many outside around campus. There are very few places on campus that do not have at least one set of waste bins within eyeshot.
Sorting
Most of Gunn's garbage cans come in sets of three with landfill, recycling, and compost. Students are encouraged to sort their trash properly, however, this is frequently ignored. Infographics taped to the side of each bin showing which items go where seem to do little to help the situation.
Attempts to solve
In 2024, a Social Justice AAR group started a poster campaign to get people to pick up their trash.
In 2025, another Social Justice AAR group conducted a small-scale study that found that greater student-custodian connection led to less littering.
