Course Catalog Description

This course will introduce calculus topics to enable success with college level mathematics. Topics include reinforcement of foundational skills necessary for success in a calculus course and basic calculus topics such as limit, derivative, and antiderivative. This course is designed for students who want to continue in mathematics, but do not want to enroll in an Advanced Placement calculus mathematics course.

  • Prerequisites: Successful completion of a Precalculus course.
  • Estimated Time Spent on Homework: 2-3 hours per week

Should I take this course?

This is the lowest-level calculus course and is intended for students who have taken Precalculus. If you got a C or higher in Precalculus, you should take this course. If you are in IAC, you can consider levelling down to this course if you got lower than a B in IAC, since AP Calculus AB moves at a fast pace and requires mastery of algebra and trigonometry. Note, however, that this course will not allow you to get any college credit for taking calculus, so if you wish to get a headstart on college math credits, take AP Calculus AB instead.
