Contemporary World History is a course taken by second-semester sophomores. It explores post-World War II world history and is designed to follow the World History course taken by freshmen.

Course catalog description

In this course, concepts from the social sciences are used to explore contemporary global issues. Special emphasis is given to non-Western regions, especially Africa, Latin America, and the Middle East and Asia.

• Homework Expectation: Approximately 2 hours per week

Should I take this course?

This course is mandatory for 10th graders.

Given that this is a semester-long course, each region of the world (e.g. Europe, East Asia, South Asia, Latin America, Africa, Middle East, etc.) is studied for only one to three weeks, so the material studied is very broad rather than deep.
